“Hoppy” Endings
Success Stories
Each of these rabbits was rescued by Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary from unfortunate or unhealthy conditions, rehabilitated, and placed in new loving homes. Enjoy reading about these beloved “alumni”!
Violet
Violet is a beautiful “purple” bunny who came to Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary after her previous owners could no longer care for her. In her previous home, she had lived a very small cage. When she arrived she had overgrown nails, and was overweight from poor diet and lack of exercise. Now she is happy and healthy, and loves playing with her toys, being petted, and eating cilantro and parsley. She was adopted by Tim, who keeps her as a free-range bunny and gives her plenty of attention and stimulation to keep her busy and content.
Alice, Bouncer, and Slurpee
Alice, Bouncer, and their daughter Slurpee were rescued by Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary from a family who could no longer care for them. This Netherland Dwarf / Rex family is incredibly friendly and social, and are closely bonded. Alice and Bouncer have been adopted together to a new free-range home, and Slurpee is awaiting adoption at our partner rescue, Cox Farm.
Cocoa J and Family
Cococa J is a sweet and social bun who was rescued from a hoarding situation during the late stages of her pregnancy. This docile Rex mix gave birth to ten babies shortly after her arrival at Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary. Despite all the efforts of Cocoa J and Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary, only six babies (named Alphonse, Rexi, Seal Pup, Bandit, Emma, and Edward) survived past their first few days of life. Unfortunately, this is the reality for many large rabbit litters, as the mother’s body does not usually produce enough milk to sustain so many offspring, and formulas designed to meet the specific digestive needs of rabbits are not available. However, the babies who survived grew up to live fulfilling lives in wonderful new homes. Rexi and Emma, two close-knit sisters, were adopted out together, as were brothers Seal Pup, Edward, and Alphonse. Bandit was adopted into a free range home, where she enjoys exploring and binkying. Cocoa J took a little longer to find a home, but at long last has been adopted into a home with a new family to give her plenty of love.
Sapphire
Sapphire is a lively young bunny with a spunky and curious personality. His previous owners had bought him as an Easter gift for their children, but he was surrendered to Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary after they could no longer care for him. Sapphire came to us with an eye infection, overgrown nails, and an enormous gash down his side, presumably from an attack by another animal. After receiving veterinary treatment and lots of love, Sapphire is now happily enjoying a free-range lifestyle with Alexa and her family. He has even made friends with the other house bunnies!
Chester
Chester is a handsome, affectionate, and playful Netherland Dwarf mix. After his previous owner passed away, a neighbor took care of Chester, but surrendered him to Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary as she could not care for him properly and wanted him to find a permanent home. Chester came to us with a tear duct infection and overgrown teeth and nails. He had also had an unhealthy diet (birdseed and corn on the cob). Now he is happy, healthy, and living in a new loving home with Charlize and her family. There he receives lots of pettings and playtime, and lives as a free-range bun, just as he had always dreamed of!
Rudy
Rudy is a friendly and playful young Dutch mix. He was rescued from a family who bought him as an Easter present and could no longer care for him. He loves to play, dig, and binky outside, and is an overall lovable and affectionate boy. He has found a fantastic home with Mattie and her family, where he has even made friends with the resident canines!
Raven
Raven is a shy but sweet Netherland Dwarf mix who came to Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary from a farm. She had a very large hutch at her previous farm home with other bunnies, but did not interact with humans much during her time there, giving her a very timid nature. She and her best friend Riddle spent quite some time at Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary, as it was difficult to find an adopter who would take on both buns. After Riddle’s sudden passing, Raven was understandably lonely. Luckily, she soon found an exceptional new home with Jordan and her family, which includes a new bunny friend named Oreo.
Luna and Family
Luna is a Lionhead mix who was found as a stray (and pregnant!) bun. Once she arrived here, Luna gave birth to five beautiful kits. Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary had a thrilling few months taking care of this sweet mom and her lively, cuddly babies: Mabel, Dipper, Gus-Gus, Piper, and Young Thug. Luckily for this close-knit family, they were all adopted out in pairs (Luna and Mabel, Piper and Young Thug, and Dipper and Gus-Gus) to wonderful new homes.
Hunter
Formerly “Steve,” Hunter is a French Lop mix who was rescued by Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary when his family could no longer care for him. This gentle giant was then relocated to Cox Farm, where he was adopted by a loving family that lets him free-roam the house and eat lots of kale – just the way he likes it.
Ruby
A very unique bun from special circumstances, Ruby had a troubled life before Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary rescued her. This Mini Lop mix came from an abusive home, and therefore exhibited many fearful and aggressive behaviors towards her caretakers. This temperament made Ruby difficult to place in a foster home, so she was brought to Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary. After she was determined unable to be adopted due to her frequent aggression, Ruby was taken on as a permanent resident of Cox Farm. She now lives a peaceful life on the farm, where she seems much happier without the pressure of constant human interaction.
Starla
Starla is a Flemish Giant mix who was rescued by our partner rescue, Cox Farm, and later fostered at Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary. A beautiful midnight-black bun, Starla found a loving home with Megan and her family, enjoying the great outdoors and lots of attention!
Iggy
Iggy is an adorable Harlequin mix. This outgoing boy was fostered at Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary, before finding a loving new home with the help of our partner rescue, Cox Farm. His new family loves his iconic markings and spunky personality.
