Permanent Residents
Sanctuary Bunnies
These rabbits will spend the rest of their lives at our sanctuary, due to very old age, chronic health issues, or “foster failure” (we fell in love!). Although they will not be adopted out, our permanent residents enjoy luxurious lives nonetheless, and some also serve as ambassadors who travel with us to outreach events and educational opportunities to teach the public about bunnies.
Buno
Buno is a people-loving bun! This friendly and outgoing Mini Rex mix was brought to BRS by his former owners when they could no longer take care of him. Buno enjoys meeting new people, doing binkies, and hopping on his harness and leash. He is an active ambassador rabbit, and has some exciting adventures visiting elementary schools, senior centers, and outreach events to teach people about bunnies. He hopes to expand his horizons even more by joining our founder Coral at college next year.
Lola
Lola is an energetic Dutch mix who was rescued from a local animal shelter just days before she was scheduled to be put down. Due to a cancer diagnosis, Lola remains a permanent resident of our sanctuary, where she is given all the love, attention, and stimulation she deserves. Lola loves to practice her “bunstruction” skills by digging and tunneling in the yard. She also enjoys broccoli and modeling for Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary’s Instagram photos.
Rainbow Bridge
The following are rescued rabbits who have passed away, many of whom were permanent residents who lived out their lives at our sanctuary. Each of these rabbits was a special blessing, and we are honored to have known them and provided them with fulfilling lives. They will always be loved and missed.
Cookie (2009-2019)
Cookie will always hold a special place in our hearts. This Netherland Dwarf / Rhinelander mix was rescued as a baby from a hoarding situation. From the time she was rescued, Cookie formed an instant bond with our family, and remained a beloved permanent resident for almost 10 years until her passing in 2019. Cookie lived every day as a happy-go-lucky, loving, and playful bun, even as she grew older. She loved to take rides in her personal bunny stroller, travel to North Carolina in the summer, and watch movies while snuggling on the couch. Her passion for bananas knew no bounds, and she could lick her humans’ arms for hours on end out of sheer affection. The loss of such an important family member still feels fresh and unreal. We are so grateful to have had this beautiful soul as part of our lives – there was something deep and spiritual about the bond we shared with Cookie.
Riddle (2012-2017)
Riddle was a shy but sweet Mini Rex mix, who was rescued from Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary with her best friend Raven from a farm that could no longer care for them. Due to lack of socialization at her previous home, Riddle was always very reserved, but became more confident with human interaction during her time at our sanctuary. Unfortunately, Riddle passed away suddenly before she could be adopted, but Raven found a new loving home with another bunny companion to keep her company. Despite her timid nature, Riddle was always curious and enjoyed exploring the world around her, and embracing the close bond she shared with Raven. She loved to dig tunnels, eat cilantro, and bask in the warm sun, pleasures we hope she still finds in bunny Heaven.
Snickers (2005-2016)
Snickers was an elderly bunny rescued by Dr. Butler at Ark-N-Bark Animal Clinic. He was brought in to the hospital with an almost lethal flea infestation, but was nursed back to health by the amazing Dr. Butler and her team. Once he was ready to be released from the hospital, Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary took him on as a permanent resident. He showed his appreciation for all the love and pettings he received by bestowing kisses on everyone he encountered. Snickers was such a gentle old soul, and he relished every sunny day, dandelion leaf, and good long stretch that life offered him. His inspiring story of recovery and healing is a memorable one, and we hope that his legacy lives on through our rescue efforts for years to come.
Bugsy (2007-2009)
Bugsy, a lovely little Netherland Dwarf, was our founder’s first rabbit, and the namesake of her rabbit rescue Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary. He was originally rescued from a snake enclosure in a pet store, where he was destined to be food. After his previous owner could no longer care for Bugsy, he was adopted by our founder, Coral, and her family. Bugsy was a playful and loyal companion, always ready to give kisses to his humans or go outside to run on his harness and leash. His resilient spirit and loving nature inspired Coral to protect other rabbits who could not speak for themselves. Bugsy’s life was truly the spark for the passion project that became Bugsy’s Rabbit Sanctuary. In his memory, we have provided rabbits in need with physical and emotional healing and peace, and saved many lives.
